Keeping Clean

As humans, we are constantly reminded about the importance of cleanliness and good hygiene. Good hygiene practices help keep us healthy and free from disease but we seldom apply the same hygiene practices to our pets.

Birds in particular can be extremely sensitive to bacteria and, as owners, it is up to us to ensure their living environment is clean and germ free.

Start by regularly cleaning the bottom of the cage. Bird droppings are high in bacteria and, if left to build up, can cause disease. This is particularly important if the cage is kept outside, as the build up of droppings with attract flies.

As strange as it may sound, it is also important to remove seed hulls on a daily basis. Birds can be fussy eater and will quite happily go without eating if they think there is no fresh food available.
